History:Rushden & Diamonds have only been in existence for 18 years, after a merger between Rushden Town and Irthlingborough Diamonds. They started in the Southern League Midland Division before being promoted to the Southern League Premier in 1994. The 1995/96 season saw Rushden promoted to the Conference for the first time and after finishing in the top four in two consecutive seasons (1997-98 and 1998-99), they won promotion to the Football League in 2001. In the 2002/03 season Rushden celebrated promotion again as they climbed to League One but were relegated a year later. More misery continued for Rushden &Diamonds as in 2006, they were relegated back to the Conference. However now they are fighting to get back to the league.
Key player: Lee Tomlin Lee has been in excellent form, scoring 16 goals that helped Rushden into the play–offs. He started his career at Leicester City before moving to Rushden & Diamonds at the age of 16. Since then, Lee has been steadily improving is now a England C international.
Final League Position: 4th
Rushden & Diamonds were really impressive this season finishing in 4th place and reaching the play-offs. But a 3-1 aggregate defeat to Oxford in the play-off semi finals, mean that they will be playing Blue Square Premier football again next season.
